Class Schedules and Information

Come and paint with the colors of your imagination: 22 beautiful colors of non-toxic liquid tempera paints, high quality acid free paper, and a wide range of oil pastels for drawing. There will be time for individual attention to each student. Class size is limited to 8. We will explore a variety of exercises designed to expand the use of materials and techniques, while leaving plenty of time for individual painting and drawing process, in a safe and non-judgmental atmosphere. Classes taught by Beth Hird, founder of Dancing Paintbrush Studio. Beth holds a Master of Fine Arts, and has been teaching art to children and adults since 1986.

Studio class tuition is $75/month (4 classes), all materials included: acid-free paper and high quality liquid tempera paints, oil pastels and collage materials. Class size is limited to 8.

Adult Class Schedule Fall 2009

Painting, Drawing and Collage Studio Classes for Adults:
Monday nights, 7-9:30pm
Friday mornings, 10am -12:30pm

Materials available for painting, drawing and collage are: 22 beautiful pre-mixed colors of high quality liquid tempera paint, oil pastels, colored pencils, charcoal, graphite, and aquatint pencils (draw and then add water with brush to produce watercolor effects), magazines and calendars for collage, as much acid free paper as you need, archival glues. If you wish, you may bring your own acrylic or oil paints, and canvases or whatever ground you prefer.

Classes are provided in an open "studio classroom" atmosphere, where I teach according to your personal interests and objectives.

In terms of techniques, I can instruct you in all aspects of color mixing, perspective (one, two and three point perspective), aerial perspective, shading and contour effects, color theory, portraits, figure drawing, still life. I'm also interested in abstraction and mark-making, and using different tools to produce new effects has an ongoing fascination for me. But most important to me is to nurture your creativity and ongoing enthusiasm for the art-making process.

My formal training includes classes at Brown University, RISD, CCA, a Master of Fine Arts at the San Francisco Art Institute, post graduate study at the Slade School of Fine Art in London (figure drawing and portraiture), and ongoing classes in various locations in the Bay Area.

The cost is $35 for a single drop-in class; $125 for 4 sessions, and $240 for 8 sessions. I also teach private lessons, for $60/hr., or $35/half hour.
